“When I experience beauty and goodness I am aware of an “oughtness” created to be enjoyed.”
Column one shows that God is the Creator and Lord of life.
God as King over all.
Humanity is made in God’s image; God is love.
World includes all else that God created. God made goodness.
God is King over all.
“For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!”Psalm 47:7
We are alive in this world because of God. He is the source of life. Our meaning is dependent on God. He is where our life is headed. Realizing God is the Lord of life is the key to finding meaning and hope.
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”Revelation 4:11
Humanity is made in God's image.
The uniqueness of humanity is our overlap with heaven and earth. We are creatures with intricate similarities to other creatures, but we are also spiritual. Specifically we are made in God’s image. What does that mean? For one, God is love (1 John 4:8). This is why the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love other people. According to Jesus, this sums up all of what God calls us to. Love is what we were created for.
"World" includes all else that God created.
Goodness exists because God is good and made goodness. The role of humanity was to represent God over creation and to rule it wisely. This is why we enjoy goodness and why we also like to create.
For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. 1 Timothy 4:4
Goodness comes from God.
Experiences of good and oughtness make us think of Column one. The purpose of life is to love God, love people, and rule wisely over creation. That is how life ought to be. But what about when the “ought” is not?
